Size Does Matter

Here's Why

As a professional photographer with over 20 years of experience, I can tell you personally size does matter and here's why. The history of printing is as rich as photography itself. With rich history comes centuries of knowledge & therefore perfection of the art. In modern printing many of these principles are still applicable today.  In film the resolution of an image is determined by the size of the film and the density of light sensitive particles. These factors determine how large you can print an image and retain the original quality. The same goes for digital, but instead of an image being captured on cellulose, it is captured with an electronic sensor. Even with all the capabilities that digital images provide us, the image resolution is still limited by the size of the sensor & the density of the pixels.

The Next Step

We know that was very technical, but here's what it means. Size actually DOES make a difference. The larger the size of the sensor, the larger you can print and retain image quality. The belief that you can take any image and enlarge it without consequence is simply untrue. We believe other photographers who print with disregard to image size/quality are doing a massive disservice to their clients. Our artwork sets us apart from other photographers through the way we capture and print our images. We are using the best technology available to ensure our clients that they are getting top of the line Fine Art Photography. We sacrifice nothing.

We asked Chandler - "What is Fine Art Photography to you? "

"For me it is about an image that is created not taken, it’s about looking at an image that makes you think and feel an emotion in the room.  When it comes to printing this scale (large fine art photography) I feel an obligation to be true to the pioneers of this art and have decided that my limited series, my 1//10s or 1/100 will begin with the proper equipment and tools. It starts with a medium format camera.  My digital brush of choice is the phase one IQ4 XF150.  My brush of choice with film is a Fuji 6x9. When it comes to printing, I want to have 244 trillion color options(16 bit) not 16 million (DSLR 8 bit) I want to have 150 megabit file be the smallest raw file I shoot.  I want to shoot one frame to achieve my vision, not thousands.  I want to do more with the proper equipment, not expect more out of less.  I want my collectors to know I have chosen to begin with the end in mind, and you deserve to know why size does matter."
